10 Ways to celebrate Earth Day

“A true conservationist is a man who knows that the world is not given by his fathers, but borrowed from his children.” —John James Audubon

Earth Day is a way for families alike to celebrate and make conscious decisions around their carbon footprint and the waste that we create. Here are 10 different ways you can celebrate, and make an environmental difference, for earth day!

1. Buy resale. Not only will you save money, but by shopping used, you are making a conscious effort to keep items out of landfills. 2. Consign with JBF! Help keep those unused items and consign them with JBF. Give them new life in someone else's home.

3. Give up the plastic bags. Invest in some re-usable bags, and skip the plastic when you check out at the store. Or opt for paper bags, that way you can recycle them when you're done, or let your kids color on the bags and create a craft!

4. Get outside. Either take a stroll and walk to work, the bus, or wherever you are heading, save money and gas! Bonus is that you'll get some exercise in at the same time!

5. Utilize the natural power of sunlight. Turn the lights off for the day, and open up those blinds! Let the sunshine light up and warm your house, that way you can save the energy costs.

6. Skip the dryer.

Did you know that lemon juice and sunlight is a natural bleach? Get those tough stains out of your kids clothing just by laying them in the sun.

7. Upgrade those lightbulbs.

When it's time to replace lightbulbs, consider getting LED bulbs that use less energy.

8. Save those old toothbrushes.

Don't toss out an old toothbrush, instead recycle and reuse it as a cleaning tool. You can use a toothbrush to get into those hard to reach spaces!

9. Clean the pantry

Go through and clean out your pantry, donate any unopened, unexpired food to the food bank. If your family won't eat it, there is another who needs it.

10. Start with baby.

Consider using cloth diapers and unusable pads. One baby produces around 10,000 diapers in their lifetime, by using cloth diapers that is enough to make a lasting difference.
